Trev Alberts is entitled to an opinion, but his recent comments about Callahan being on the hot seat are just wrong. The success of Callahan's boss is tied to him, and Steve Pederson likes the direction the program has taken. Cally's seat isn't even warm at this point. Trev likes to go overboard and create controversy and page hits because that is his job. He doesn't want to appear to be a homer, but I don't have those problems.
BC has done a great job of recruiting athletes for his system and the talent level is finally getting back up to Nebraska standards. This team isn't there yet but they are well on their way back to where they belong. It has been a long climb out of the deep hole that Callahan found himself in when he landed in Lincoln. Why the optimism?
- BC has stopped the bleeding
- Recruiting improvements are undeniable
- The offense is starting to click, and NU is reloading
- Big 12 North titles are expected again, and NU is poised for two in a row
- Another Big 12 Conference Championship title and BCS bowl bid are next
- The return to the Top 10 will be sooner than Trev thinks
I will admit that there is still much work to be done and Callahan would be the first to agree. The Huskers need to win on the road, they need a signature win against a team they aren't supposed to beat (Texas or USC will do), and they cannot lose to teams they should beat (OSU). But to imply the program is not headed in the right direction is just short sighted. Pay attention to what is going on in Lincoln. Any real Nebraska fan should like what they've seen so far.
