Wally's view from the cheap seats:
I totally missed on the score with a prediction of 52-17 but I did nail the call regarding Hawkins' goofy haircut. Is it just me or does Dan Hawkins look exactly like that fat kid from Family Guy? This game was much closer than it should have been but that is what happens when you spot a team 14 points. The Huskers got way too cute for their own britches late in the second quarter. NU was up by seven points when they decided to go for a fake field goal which fooled absolutely nobody, especially the buffie that ran it back for a touchdown. THAT was the play that turned this into a game but the Huskers managed to hang on and win it anyway. Alex Henery's record breaking 57-yard field goal saved the day as the Huskers went on to deny Colorado any holiday cheer. In the spirit of the Christmas season I wish to offer this to my misguided Colorado friends: Waaaaah losers!
A few more comments and observations:
* It's only a rivalry when you don't suck. Step back buffies.
* Matt Slausen was right. Colorado is irrelevant.
* A 57-yard field goal? Well done , Alex.
* Only 3 penalties is a great sign of progress.
* NU was 5-6 in Red Zone conversions.

CO-CHAMPS in Pelini's first term, priceless!
Wally, I knew that wasn't going to be a cakewalk. I'm so proud of the
Huskers.
Isn't it funny how so many people think the fake fieldgoal try was a bad
call and Bo owning up to his "mistake" and Bo saying it was a "bonehead"
call and Bo saying he got "greedy" and the media ripping him for the
call and on and on and on. Then, at the end of the game with 4th and 25
HE makes the greatest call (kick the fieldgoal) and we win! Of course,
nobody's talking about that call...
The Jayhawks are beating the Tigers at halftime. If Kansas wins, we'll
actually share the North Division title with Missouri...unbelievable!
Wow, what a game. Nebraska hasn't been on the winning side of such a thriller in a long time. Sure, there were gaffes by the coaching staff, blown coverages by the defense, mistakes on the offense, and in general, a game far closer than it should have been. Colorado had everything to play for, and they did their part. You couldn't have asked for more effort from an opponent.
But in the end this was a victory for Nebraska, and not just because of a dramatic 57 yard kick. This was a victorious season for Nebraska, and not just because of an 8-4 record and possible New Year's Day bowl ahead. This season brought the fun back to Nebraska football. This was a season filled with blowouts, closer than expected wins, tough losses, and a few whuppins. But it was always hard fought. Everyone was always aware of the big picture. Even in the darkest corner of this season, this team fought together and remembered to have fun together.
That's what will make this season one that will be remembered next to championship years and undefeated seasons. This team, through thick and thin, remembered to have fun. After all, that's why we play it. That's why we coach it. That's why we watch it. College football may be about big money, and politics, and all of the pressure that goes with that. But, no one got into this sport for any of that. We got into it to have some fun. Nebraska football didn't ultimately need wins to recover. It needed to be reminded of why an entire state, and millions of fans nationwide, put their heart and soul into this program. It needed to be reminded that football is fun to watch, and win or lose, we don't want to miss a minute of it.
At least for a season, Bo Pelini brought fun back to Nebraska Football. It's not the kick I'll ultimately remember. Or the records. It's Bo at the end of the game, joking about his DT. It's Bo, with everything at stake, asking his kicker what to do. It's Bo putting the game in the hands of his players, and enjoying the game, win or lose. I don't know if ultimately winning and recruiting and the so-called "important" things are paid off due to this game. But I do know I don't care, because it's now fun to watch Nebraska football again, and we can thank Bo for that.
Damn, Bro. Very well said. I have been trying to put my finger on what exactly is different this season and you just nailed it.
